After being cut from my High School basketball team two years in a row I decided I would do a sport where there were no politics involved and I would never be cut or benched; Cross Country. I fell in love with distance running right away and realized I must have some talent as I won most of the races I entered during my final two years of High School and set the Utah High School State Record for 800 Meters my Senior year. I went on to run at Brigham Young University from 1999-2003 where I became an All-American in the 3,000 M Steeplechase (9:59.50) and in Cross Country. I had a pretty amazing college experience and learned a lot about myself during that time.
I married Aaron in 2002 and in 2004 we started our family. Three consecutive pregnancy/birth/breastfeeding adventures in just under four years left little energy or time for much else but I did run my first marathon in 2007 on mediocre training and sleep deprivation as a mother of two young children. After my third child was born in 2008, I decided it was time to get back to the competitive level of running I so love and set my sights on the 2012 Olympic Trials in the Marathon.
The summer/fall of 2010 brought many new PRs (2:35 marathon, 1:10:45 aided half marathon) and super fun racing. I have the blessing of being able to train with the Running Republic of Boulder team, coached by Darren De Reuck. It is very exhilarating and I’m learning a lot along the way. This blog is for me to share some of what I learn/experience and hopefully benefit someone else along the way.
Aaron and I and our three kiddos live in Boulder, CO. Aaron has built a successful real-estate investing business which keeps him very busy while I spend my time taking care of/playing with the kids, cooking, cleaning, serving in my Church, oh, and running too. Our family website is www.kennardhome.com
